I remember coming home from school and turning on BBC for their kid’s programming. One show, in particular, stands out among all of the cartoons and game shows: Tracy Beaker.
Tracy Beaker, a widely popular kids TV show on the BBC and running for 3 years, 5 seasons and 125 episodes, is based on the book by Jacqueline Wilson. The show focuses on the eponymous Tracy Beaker – a young woman with a strong will, a wild imagination, and a rebellious streak – as she finds herself in a care home affectionately known as ‘The Dumping Ground’.
Now, 12 years after the publication of the last Tracy Beaker book, Jacqueline Wilson is back at it again with her new book ‘My Mum Tracy Beaker’. This latest foray into the life of this beloved character is set 2 decades after the last book ends and deals with Tracy Beaker living as a single mum to a 9-year-old daughter (whose perspective the story is told from) in a rough estate in London.
To think that we were first introduced to this character 27 years ago is mind-boggling and I cannot wait to find out more about the next steps for one of my favourite childhood characters!
