So I started this week thinking that it would be a slow news week, but is there ever such a thing as a slow news week? It has been a busy week here at Fangirl HQ. We’ve had some amazing weather in Scotland this week so I’ve been spending a lot of time out in the sun and consuming a lot of smores by the fire pit and new BBQ that has recently been purchased for some lockdown restrictions being lifted and family members finally able to visit to spend time in our back garden (don’t worry, they are bringing their paper plates etc. with them!) I’m quite excited for this roundup, there are some fun things in here for you all that I have brought together in case you have missed anything.
What We Do in the Shadows

When news of this show dropped, I was excited beyond words. Based on the movie of the same name written by Taikia Waititi and Jermaine Clement, this show transports you from Wellington, New Zealand, to New York, and is part of the overall franchise. Earlier this week news dropped that What We Do in the Shadows had been picked up for a third season while halfway through airing its second season on FX. I cannot wait to see what happens in season three!
Heartland

And we have even more news of shows being renewed, this time it is Heartland being renewed for a 14th season to air on CBC in Canada. If you are looking for where to watch it in the UK, it is on Netflix over here and it is where I first found it back in 2013. Heartland stars Amber Marshall as Amy Fleming alongside familiar faces of Shaun Jackson (Juan Carlo in Wynonna Earp) and Michelle Morgan ( Kate Kane’s mother in Batwoman) and focuses on their family life while running a horse and cattle ranch in Calgary. You might even see even more familiar faces grace your screen in this show such as Kate Drummond, Agent Lucado in Wynonna Earp, as this show pulls from all the greats in Canada so look out for all the cameos.
Wayhaught Wednesdays

Finally a little bit of Wynonna Earp news for you all. Every Wednesday of June, Syfy will be airing episodes of seasons one and two of Wynonna Earp which focus on our favourite ship, Wayhaught. They will also include some custom content from the huge fan base about how it has changed their lives as part of their pride month celebrations. The times are below:
Wed., 6/3 from 6-9am
Wed., 6/10 from 6:30-9:30am
Wed., 6/17 from 6:30-9:30am

Please don’t miss out on this chance to be introduced to the show if you have yet to watch it.

Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Earlier this week it was announced that Amazon has placed a new series into development. Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, based on the book by Steig Larrson will have a new setting, new characters, a new story, and will place the ever loved Lisbeth Salander in today’s world. No one is attached to the roles yet, but we are excited to see who will be the fifth in the line of actresses to play this amazing woman.
Reunited Apart
Josh Gad, ever the genius, has put together a Lord of the Rings reunion of epic proportions for us all this weekend. On Sunday, May 31st we will be treated to the cast of the Return of the King reuniting for an episode of Josh Gad’s series ‘Reunited Apart’ which is free to watch on YouTube. The series is in aid of various charities with a new charity selected each episode. From various social media statuses, ie the one I saw on Miranda Otto’s IG account, we can expect to see the following guests: Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Sir Ian McKellan, Dominic Monahan, Orlando Bloom, Bily Boys, Sir Peter Jackson, Phillipa Boyens, Viggo Mortensen, Andy Serkis, Sean Bean, Karl Urban, John Rhys Davis, Miranda Otto, and Liv Tyler. I am a HUGE LOTR geek so you can bet on it that I will be watching this as soon as it goes live.
Borderlands Movie

If you follow me on Twitter, then you will know that my sister and I did a 24-hour charity gaming live stream just before Christmas and we played Borderlands 2. Yesterday some news came through the grapevine of some casting news for the Borderlands movie in that Cate Blanchett is confirmed to play Lilith, a Siren with the ability to “Phasewalk”. Lionsgate confirmed the news on Thursday and released a statement from Eli Roth.
“I’m so lucky to have the amazing Cate Blanchett starring in Borderlands. We had the most incredible collaboration together on The House with a Clock in Its Walls, and I believe there’s nothing she can’t do.“
We look forward to seeing this movie on the big screen when we are allowed to visit cinemas again.
Some quick bits of news, StyriaTypical (A Carmilla Podcast you can sink your teeth into) is due to return with a new batch of episodes starting June 1st. After covering Seasons 1-3, they are now set to start on the Movie.
Can you keep a secret? Also in Podcast news, we recently reported that Pretty Little Wine Moms was set to start today, and they sure have with a bang in releasing three episodes covering episodes 1-3 of season one.
Last week also saw the Creampuff Coalition raise $10,356 for Covid-19 relief funds for victims/survivors of child and domestic abuse. Congrats Creampuffs!
And that is it for all our news this week. Please stay tuned next week for even more, and as always, if you see a piece of news that you think is interesting, send it along to us in the usual channels.
